Dr. David Wain Coon, Interim President

At a special meeting of the Board of Trustees on Friday, April 17, 2026, David Wain Coon, Ed.D., was appointed interim president of De Anza College. He will serve in this role until a permanent president is appointed.

Dr. Coon served as superintendent/president of College of Marin from 2010 to 2024, leading major facilities modernization, strengthening partnerships and advancing equity. Previously president of Evergreen Valley College, he is known for collaborative leadership. Under his tenure, both colleges earned the Dr. John W. Rice Diversity & Equity Award.

A longtime California community college leader, Dr. Coon continues mentoring new CEOs. In 2024 he assumed the role of acting president at San Jose City College, then became the interim president and served through September 2025.

The administration of De Anza College is organized into three major areas: Instruction, Student Services and Administrative Services.

The vice presidents for these areas, along with other senior staff, advise and report to the president.

Shared Governance

De Anza follows a shared governance model, in which all members of the college community students, faculty, classified professionals and administrators  are encouraged to participate. Through their constituent organizations, these groups provide representation to the planning and budget teams, shared governance committees and the College Council, which makes recommendations to the president.
