"For the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that
things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the
number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."
-George Eliot, Middlemarch
Bio & Pedagogy
I have been teaching at De Anza for more than a decade. I have also--since their inception in 2021--served as coordinator for the De Anza Villages. I love working with De Anza students, and I am grateful to be a part of the De Anza community.
ENGL C1000 and C1001
My pedagogical goal is to help students build strong reading, writing, and thinking skills that will serve them both in and out of the classroom. In my writing (ENGL) classes,
- we read and discuss engaging texts, including sci-fi novels, Hamilton: An American Musical, and Everything Everywhere All at Once.
- we explore in writing topics such as technology, higher education, social justice, LGBTQ experience, and human well-being.
- I prepare students for the writing they will need to succeed at De Anza, at transfer institutions, and in life after college.
- I encourage students to understand reading and writing in relation to communities outside of the classroom.
If this sounds like fun, then sign up for an ENGL class with me!
PRIDE Learning Community
I am proud to teach ENGL classes as part of the Pride Learning Community, and I am deeply committed to supporting LGBTQ+ student success (both in and out of the Pride Community)!
ELIT Classes
I also teach English and American literature classes. In my ELIT classes, the goal is for students to encounter new texts and to learn how to read analytically--without ever losing sight of the pleasures that can be found in literature.
Syllabi
Students who are enrolled in my classes can access the syllabus through the Canvas page. Anyone else who is interested in my syllabi should send me an email.
