How to Get Priority Registration
At De Anza, the steps to get priority registration system are based on state requirements and designed to
- Help new students get started by following important steps for success
- Reward continuing students who are making steady progress toward their goals.
To find your registration date for the current quarter, visit the Academic Calendar page and look for your enrollment category.
You can also find your registration date on MyPortal: Open the Apps section, click on Student Registration, then look under Registration Tools and select Get Date to Register.
How to Register for Classes

Requirements
You must complete the following steps if you want to receive priority registration
- Step 1

When you apply to De Anza, be sure to do these two things:
- Declare a major (not "undecided") on the application
AND - Select a goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- Declare a major (not "undecided") on the application

Complete assessment
- Step 3

Complete orientation
- Step 4

Create an educational plan
- Step 5

You're ready to go! You'll find your registration dates posted on MyPortal.
Tip
You can change your major and educational goal, at any time, by using MyPortal. Click the "Student Registration" icon, then look under "My Profile" to select "Update My Major/Educational Goal."
Priority Registration Order
Students will be assigned registration dates in the following order. (See the Academic Calendar for actual priority registration dates for the upcoming or current term.)
- Group 1-A
- Veterans, foster youth, DSPS, EOPS and CalWorks students who have
- completed orientation, assessment and an educational plan
- completed orientation, assessment and an educational plan
- Group 1-B
- Student parents who have
- one or more children under age 18 who receive more than half their support from the student parent
- completed orientation, assessment and an educational plan
- Group 2
- Student athletes who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- Declared a major and have not been on probation for two consecutive terms
(If first admit quarter is summer 2014 or later, student will be considered a first-time college student and must have completed assessment, passed orientation and completed an educational plan.)
- Group 3
- Continuing students who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- Declared a major and have not been on probation for two consecutive terms
- Completed orientation, assessment and an educational plan
- Group 4
- New college students who have
- Completed assessment, orientation and an educational plan
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- Declared a major
- Group 5
- New college students who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- Declared a major and have not been on probation for two consecutive terms
- But have NOT completed assessment, orientation or an educational plan
- Group 6
- Returning students and new transfer students who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- Declared a major
- Group 7
- All other college students
- including continuing students who have NOT declared a major or who have NOT selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- Group 8
- Dual or concurrently enrolled high school students
Some additional rules
- You will not qualify for priority enrollment if you have already graduated from De Anza College or completed more than 150 quarter units in degree-applicable courses. This does not include courses in which you received "W" and "I" grades. This also does not count pre-collegiate English, ESL and Math classes.
- Students who have lost priority enrollment status and have been moved to open registration may appeal for reinstatement based on verifiable evidence of factors outside their control. This is a one-time reinstatement of priority registration. To file an appeal, use the Loss of Enrollment Priority Appeal form.
