Please Vote in Upcoming Elections
April 24, 2012
Dear Colleagues,
I urge you to vote in your constituency group's upcoming election, and to consider running for office yourself. As of this evening, there remain several open seats on Classified Senate, with the group's elections to be held this Thursday, April 26, from 1:30-3 p.m. in the California History Center. The participation of our classified professionals in governance is critical for our campus. See www.deanza.edu/gov/classifiedsenate/elections.html for more information on this week's election.
For our faculty members: Please consider running for an open seat on the Academic Senate as a division representative or officer (www.deanza.edu/gov/academicsenate/excom_roster.html). Elections will be held in May. Similarly, we should all encourage our students to participate as candidates -- applications are due May 4 -- and voters in the DASB elections, which begin May 21 (www.deanza.edu/dasb/elections/).
As I mentioned in my e-mail of April 10, De Anza's Institute of Community and Civic Engagement (ICCE) is working with My Vote Our Future to register historically underrepresented communities to vote in the upcoming primary and general elections. A key deadline is May 21, the last day to register for the June primary.
As I also mentioned, please participate this fall in a coordinated series of campus election information events. Planning will be under way soon, and I hope you will contribute to that as well.
Thank you for engaging in democracy at all levels -- campus, local, state and national.
Sincerely,
Brian Murphy
