An Apology and a Commitment to Our Undocumented Students
June 1, 2023
Dear Colleagues,
I want to reaffirm the commitment by De Anza College – and by myself, personally – to supporting our undocumented students and colleagues.
As you may be aware, the college recently hosted a Career Fair on campus, and unfortunately, Border Patrol officers were among the employer representatives who attended. I apologize for the distress this understandably caused HEFAS students and others who saw these uniformed officers on our campus.
I would like to make it clear that De Anza College is committed to treating all students and employees with dignity and respect, and to making them feel welcome and supported, regardless of their immigration status. I support all efforts to make De Anza a sanctuary campus.
I would also encourage all employees to participate in the UndocuSolidarity training offered through HEFAS and the Equity and Engagement Division. All members of the college senior staff have participated in this excellent training, which is designed to develop and enhance working knowledge about serving De Anza’s undocumented students.
Thank you for supporting our undocumented students.
With appreciation,
Lloyd
