Re: Addendum — Additional Faculty Hiring Recommendations 2026-2027
Date: March 2, 2026
This communication serves as an addendum to my December 15, 2025 memo recommending fifteen (15) faculty positions for 2026-2027. Based on subsequent timely recommendations of the RAPP Committee and College Council, and in recognition of active faculty hiring recruitments already underway for 2026-2027 and confirmed available funding, I am recommending to our Chancellor that we move forward with filling the following two (2) additional faculty positions as soon as possible:
- Paralegal Studies (Instructional)
- Counselor – Pride Center/Learning Communities (Non-Instructional)
The Paralegal Studies position is essentially a replacement for a resignation occurring this year and is required by the American Bar Association (ABA) for our authorized program designation.
The Counselor – Pride Center/Learning Communities position was originally recommended by RAPP and College Council as part of Bucket 4.
| Bucket 1 – Instructional Faculty | Bucket 2 – Instructional Faculty | Bucket 3 - Instructional Faculty | Bucket 4 - Noninstructional Faculty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business | Geography | General Biology | Transfer Center Counselor |
| Political Science | Computer Information Systems | Communication Studies | Pride/Learning Communities Counselor |
| 2D/3D Design | CETH/NAIS | Film Studies | College Life/Faculty Coordinator of Student Activities |
| ESL | Art History | Business | Guided Pathways Coordinator |
| Biology- Anatomy and Physiology | Math | Chemistry |
This position will be funded through the general fund, with year two funding supported by the need for an anticipated future faculty position. The campus is especially supportive of this position, recognizing the national framework and the critical need to ensure our students—particularly those served by our Pride Center and Learning Communities—have dedicated counseling support.
I recognize we are still in conversations about the impact of a potential Supplementary Retirement Plan (SRP), and I appreciate the thoughtfulness our campus community has brought to these discussions. Nevertheless, these are timely requests that I believe need to be addressed now, so as not to miss the opportunity to attract strong applicants given other active recruitments already underway for 2026-2027.
I appreciate the collaborative work of the RAPP Committee and College Council in bringing these two additional recommendations forward. Thank you, as always, for your commitment to our students and to the continued strength of De Anza College.
Sincerely,
Omar
