From the President

Democracy, Patience and Care

Nov. 3, 2020

Dear Students,

I want you to know that I share your anxiety as we await the results of the presidential election. Uncertainty can be challenging in the best of times, but today, it is excruciating.

Our democracy means counting all votes. That is what is happening now, and we must be patient. It's also important to be kind and generous to each other, even in the midst of distraction and emotion.

I also wanted to remind you about some important resources available to you.

If you’d like to talk with others as you process your feelings about the election, De Anza’s Psychological Services office is offering some special online group sessions this week.

  • Today – Wednesday, Nov. 4 – beginning at 3:30 p.m.
  • Tomorrow – Thursday, Nov. 5 – beginning at 11:30 a.m.

If you’re looking for resources to support activism and advocacy in our democratic system, be sure to visit De Anza’s CivicsWatch website at deanza.edu/civicswatch. You’ll find some great tools for fact-checking, organizing, speaking out and taking action.

Best wishes,
Lloyd A. Holmes
President, De Anza College
