From the President

Thank You to Christina Espinosa-Pieb

Nov. 3, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

I want to let you know that today -- with an extraordinary 40 years of service to De Anza College -- Vice President of Instruction Christina Espinosa-Pieb has submitted a letter of retirement, effective April 28, 2023.

Christina has had a remarkable journey at De Anza. Beginning as a student, she progressed from serving as a volunteer to being a program coordinator, dean, and vice president of Instruction, also serving in various interim roles including college president. While her sheer length of service would indicate that retirement could not be far away, I still found myself experiencing a degree of surprise. This is because it is difficult to imagine De Anza College without Christina's presence, her unwavering dedication, her expertise, and her institutional knowledge. The college's loss of Christina as vice president is a loss indeed, and I suspect we will not realize the full implications of that loss until we are confronted with a situation she could have fluidly addressed, a question she could have easily answered, or a process or history only she would recall.

All of this is not to say, however, that we will miss only her exceptional work. I know that we will miss most of all her heart, and her unfailing generosity in so many ways. She has helped make this college the renowned institution of higher education that it is today.

Vice President of Student Services Rob Mieso will chair the search committee for the next vice president of Instruction, with more information to come. For now, please join me in congratulating Christina on her four decades at De Anza and her retirement, and thank her for her innumerable contributions to the college.

With appreciation to Christina and each of you,
Lloyd
