Fall 2018 New Students: Steps to Prepare for Your First Quarter

Follow the steps below.  More information about each step can be found in the and be sure to read the FAQs for Admitted Students.

Fall 2018 Registration opens July 13 at 8am PST.

Begin registering for classes as soon as possible as classes fill up quickly!  Review the steps below for more information.

Register for Orientation

Follow the link provided to register for orientation.  The link is included above along with the orientation dates and schedule outline.  Remember to bring your I-20 and a copy of your visa to check in on the first day of orientation.

Locate your student ID number & log in to MyPortal

Your De Anza Campus Wide ID (CWID) number is the 8-digit student identification number that you can find on your admission letter as well as handwritten in pencil on the first page of your I-20.  Please memorize this number as you will need it to login to MyPortal to register for classes, take placement tests, obtain your student ID card, and more.  You should also include your CWID in all emails that you send to the ISP office.

Even if you have received your acceptance packet and CWID number, you may not immediately be able to log in to MyPortal.  Your account activation may take several weeks from the date of your acceptance.  Fall 2018 accounts should be accessible by early July.  If your registration date arrives and you are still unable to log in, send an email to the ISP office at with your name, date of birth, and CWID to request assistance.

Begin registering for classes

New students for Fall 2018 can begin registering as of July 13 at 8am PST.

Register through MyPortal as soon as possible when the date arrives because classes fill up quickly and F-1 students MUST have a minimum of 12 units per quarter.  You will not be able to register for Math/English classes until after you take the placement test (during orientation), but you will be able to register for other general education classes.

More information about general education requirements and class selection will be given at orientation, but in the meantime, please refer to the Counselor Letter to New Students for tips and suggestions for registering for your first quarter.

Attend orientation & take the placement tests

New students must take a Math and English/ESL placement test in order register for these classes or other classes with a Math or English requirement.*  You will be assigned a time to take the Math and English/ESL placement tests when you check in at orientation on September 4th.  If you miss orientation, you must make your own appointment for the placement tests on the Assessment Center's appointment page.

Visit the Assessment Center website to learn more about the placement tests.

*If you have credit from a U.S. school in college-level English or Math and you would like to waive the placement tests, you can complete the pre-requisite clearance process.  Note that clearance can take several weeks, so submit the paperwork as soon as possible to avoid registration delays.

Submit required documents to ISP

The Health Verification form included with your acceptance packet must be completed and returned to the ISP office with appropriate medical documentation attached during orientation.

Please note: This form should be completed by a medical professional or supporting documentation must be attached.  Forms that have been filled in by the student and/or are lacking attached proof will not be accepted.

Students who do not have a valid Health Verification can receive the required testing and immunizations at Student Health Services on campus after the start of their first quarter. More information about accessing these services will be given during orientation.

Additional documents that must be submitted to the ISP office are listed below (copies will be given at orientation).  Failing to submit all documents by the 2nd Friday of your first quarter will result in a 'HOLD' on your account which will prevent you from registering for classes for the next quarter.
