Visiting Speaker event


Speakers who will share their stories:

  • Fernando Carrillo and Lourdes Barraza
    Parents caught up in an ICE raid and immigration detention
  • Valeria Ruiz
    Traveled to the US as part of the “Trans Gay Migrant Caravan”
  • Shaila Ramos
    A queer, feminist, Afro-Latina, undocumented Chingona advocate for undocumented students and the LGBTQ+ community
  • Camarad Conley
    Wrongly convicted and exonerated, now a criminal justice reform advocate and multimedia entrepreneur

After the panel, students will get to participate in a workshop where they will be encouraged to give voice to their own stories.

This event is presented in partnership with the Vasconcellos Institute for Democracy in Action (VIDA) and the Office of Equity, Social Justice, and Multicultural Education. Funding for this event is provided by “DASB, Visiting Speakers Series.”
